STUDIERENDENRAT (STURA)
The Student Council (StuRa) of the University of Rostock is the parliament of the students. As such, it is responsible for forming opinions and making fundamental decisions on university policy from a student perspective.
The StuRa elects the AStA, which represents the student body externally, advises students, gets involved in university politics, organises cultural and educational events and much more. The StuRa has the task of checking whether the AStA is doing its job in the interests of the students and can also vote out speakers if necessary.
The StuRa also makes decisions on the political and content-related orientation of the student body: How do we envisage studying? Which fees may or may not be charged? What do we think is part of a lively and future-orientated campus?
In this context, the StuRa also decides on finances: How much money is spent on events? How much is spent on a campaign against tuition fees, for example? To what extent should student councils, student initiatives and university groups be supported? All of this is decided by the StuRa, as is the semester contribution to the student council (currently €9 per student), which is used to finance all of these things.
Something is bothering you at university, on campus, at events, or or or…? Would you like the StuRa to stand up for you and deal with your issues? Then use the open consultation hours or the “Kümmert-euch-Kasten” (“Do-Something-Box”) to get in touch with the Presidential Board.
