FAQs about the changeover of the copy cards/multifunction devices

23.09.2025

What has changed?

Our university has multifunctional devices for printing, copying and scanning at many locations. Students can use these with a copy card.

A new contract for the devices came into effect at the start of the 2025/2026 winter semester. Both the devices and the software were therefore gradually updated. This update is now complete, with the exception of a few remaining devices.

As the new and the previous software are not compatible with each other, the updated devices can only be used with credit that has been transferred to the copy card at a new credit charger. Further information on the locations of the updated devices and new chargers can be found below.

PLEASE NOTE: If you still have credit remaining on your copy card from the old system, you can use it up on selected devices until the end of the semester (= until 31 March 2026). The original deadline of 31 December 2025 has been extended.

How can I use up my old credit?

Credit that you have transferred to your copy card using an old charger can still be used up on selected devices until 31 March 2026. These devices can be found at the following locations.

  • Südstadt Campus Library (Albert-Einstein-Str. 6), Magazine 2
  • Theology and Philosophy Library (Altbettelmönchstr. 4)
  • August-Bebel-Str. 28, 9th floor, corridor near room 9026
  • Ulmenstr. 69, building 1, room 226 (PC pool)

Any credit remaining on the old chargers cannot be cashed out and will expire after 31 March 2026.

How do I use the new devices?

The new devices can only be used with credit that has been transferred to your copy card at the new chargers. The new chargers are currently available at the following locations.

  • University Main Building / Universitätshauptgebäude, room 020 (Universitätsplatz 1)
  • Südstadt Library, Magazine 1 (Albert-Einstein-Str. 6)

Instructions on how to use the new devices can be found here https://www.itmz.uni-rostock.de/service/nutzerkonto/chipkarte-zutritts-kopierfunktion/gestattungsvertag-drucken/kopieren/scannen/. The ITMZ also provides further useful information about the devices on its website.
